Killing Models Blurb/Cover

Okay, here's the cover and blurb! Any feedback will be great!

Voodoo. Murder. Betrayal. Wedding?

One of these things just doesn't fit in with the others.

In two months, Estela will be married to the love of her life. She doesn’t have a dress, a venue, or invitations, but she’s positive things will work themselves out. Between planning her wedding and managing Moo’s career, she finds it hard to focus on anything. And now that she’s killed someone—violently—she can’t focus on anything.

She’s promised Caleb not to get involved in another murder investigation, but what if she’s the murderer? Certainly she should get involved then? At least to turn herself in? But then things get crazy and models are being offed left and right. With Moo a little over seven months pregnant, she could already be next on the killer’s list! Estela knows she has to intervene somehow.

Protect Moo. Marry Caleb. She can do these two things at once, can’t she?

Determined, Estela hurries to conclude this murder business. Just as things start to get back to normal, she sees a side of Caleb that she never expected in a million years. It is a side that makes her question everything. Does she even know him? Does she know herself? Maybe there won’t be a wedding after all.

  1. i really like this cover and the way the words are two toned instead of all black, adds a bit of pop, not sure if it fits with the others but it's a nice cover.

    Onto the blurb:

[One of these things just doesn't fit in with the others.]

My mind automatically changed that to 'one of these things is (just) not like the others'

But I have been trained to see that/sing that whenever I see a 'something doesn't belong' type scenerio, thank you sesame street, lol.

It's not a big deal but I thought I'd mention it.

[Between planning her wedding and managing Moo’s career, she finds it hard to focus on anything. And now that she’s killed someone—violently—she can’t focus on anything.]

You say 'focus on anything' twice here. maybe change the first to 'hard to pay attention' or even reword it to something like

"Between planning her wedding and managing Moo's career she's finding it hard to focus, and the knowledge that she killed someone -violently- isn't helping her stay on the ball"

"She’s promised Caleb not to get involved in another murder investigation, but what if she’s the murderer? Certainly she should get involved then? At least to turn herself in? "

I don't have any corrections for this but I just sighed and shook my head at her, lol, like, I think you showcase her personality really really well this this paragraph and the ones that follow.

I actually have nothing else to say in regards to the blurb, it tells us a bit about what happened in previous books, it shows the character's personality as well as the things that are important to her as well as the things that are at risk.

Great job and congrats again on finish it!

  2. Thanks so much for the feedback! I'm asking my friend to help me add a little more color to the image :) Hopefully that will make it even better. I'm excited to be coming to a close and ready to move on to the next! :)

  3. You're right that the covers won't look that cohesive anymore, but you made me rethink things after mentioning that it really didn't matter as much (like it does with print books lined up on your bookshelf). I haven't looked at it that way before and it totally made it easier to decide to change things up a bit. So thanks! :)

  4. I love the added colour in the cover. It's made all the difference.

And I love the blurb, it's the best one out of all four I think.

Agree with Jammi on her second blurb suggestion - focus, it does sound weird.

The first suggestion doesn't really bother me at all. Sounded just fine.

    Published date in mind yet?

  5. Thanks Sammy! I thought that this blurb would be the most difficult because several things happen in this book. I'm glad that it reads well! :)

As for a publication date, my beta reader said she'd have it back to me before May 1st, so it'll probably be that weekend. Fingers crossed!

  6. Hi
I love the blurb the cover needs a little more than color love the voodoo doll maybe a bride with an axe in her hand or a model laying in a pool of blood don't mean to be so graphic. All I know is really want to read Killing Models

    1. Haha! Love your cover idea... I wish I was talented enough to pull something bigger and better off, but it'll likely stay the way it is :). I think I'll be able to release Killing Models around the first week of May.

    1. :) Hi Kerry! Thanks for the message. I really hope that KM4 will be available by this weekend, but I haven't heard from my beta reader yet. No need to stalk Amazon; I update my blog somewhat regularly :)
